I have never memorised a note of music. I can sight read well – but never acquired the skill of learning to play the piano without the music in front of me. The Chopin Ballade involves so many notes flying around in both hands it would be impossible to play while looking at the sheet music. So, at the age of 56, I had to discover whether my brain was still capable of learning how to memorise music. I interviewed some leading neuroscientists to find out.
